Finding an Audio Book Cassette

There is no turning back the race for gadgets and tech wonders. The audio book cassette set has seen this. Who wants to bother carrying around or keeping up with twelve tapes? Digital recording and compression have reduced these gargantuan down to a manageable size. There are still people who use their tape decks so finding a book on tape has become a virtual scavenger hunt.

After the record's decline, the audio book cassette became the preferred format for listening to books on tape. Cars, homes and Walkman's became the way to play audio book tapes. Audio books children listened to came in plastic bags complete with the book to follow along with. There was not a fancy, digital stylus to point and click on a word. It was the finger that did the trailing behind as the voice read the story.

The audio book cassette has been replaced by the compact disc and the digital format (MP3 or MP4) that is downloaded directly to a digital player. So finding an audio book cassette can be a bit of a challenge when it comes to finding that special book. There are places to look to find great deals on audio books.

Ebay has become the global thrift store for finding goods. There is not much that cannot be found within its multiple directories. Audio books can go for as little as pennies plus shipping and handling and come in a wide assortment of titles and genres. There is a catch though. Like any transactions handled online where the actual product is not inspected, a person has to take the word of the seller. The best advice is to read the description carefully and note any words such as "wear and tear". Ebay does have safeguards in place to help protect against damaged goods.

Contrary to popular belief not everyone is an avid Ebay shopper. If you do not have an internet connection you will not be able to browse and purchase an audio book cassette. If that is the case you should consider hitting some garage sales or thrift stores. Many people listen to audio books once or twice and then wish to clear space by selling it. You will find them pretty cheaply but you may not get a new release from this decade.
